What Is Medicare C?

Medicare Part C, also known as Medicare Advantage, is a type of health insurance plan offered by private insurance companies that provides all of the benefits of Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance), as well as additional benefits like prescription drug coverage, vision, dental, and hearing services.

Medicare Part C plans must cover all of the services covered by Medicare Part A and Part B, but they may also include additional benefits that are not covered by traditional Medicare. These additional benefits can vary depending on the plan and the insurance company, but they may include things like gym memberships, transportation to medical appointments, and wellness programs.

In order to enroll in a Medicare Part C plan, you must first be enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B. You can then choose to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan during the Annual Enrollment Period, which typically runs from October 15 to December 7 each year. Some individuals may also be eligible to enroll during a Special Enrollment Period if they experience certain qualifying life events, such as moving to a new area or losing their current health insurance coverage.

One important thing to keep in mind about Medicare Part C plans is that they are offered by private insurance companies, which means that the costs and coverage can vary widely from plan to plan. Some plans may have lower premiums and deductibles, but higher out-of-pocket costs for services, while other plans may have higher premiums but lower out-of-pocket costs. It's important to carefully review the details of each plan to determine which one is the best fit for your individual needs and budget.

In summary, Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage) is a type of health insurance plan offered by private insurance companies that provides all of the benefits of Medicare Part A and Part B, as well as additional benefits. It's important to carefully review the details of each plan to determine which one is the best fit for your individual needs and budget.
